Brian Clark Music Educator Portfolio

Welcome
My name is Brian Clark, and I am a senior music education major at TCU specializing in tuba and bass trombone. Coming from a New Orleans family with a strong musical background, I was inspired by my dad’s own low-brass journey to begin playing in sixth grade, and music has been a central part of my life ever since.

At TCU, I’ve grown as a musician through the Wind Symphony, Horned Frog Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, and various chamber groups, including student-led tuba-euphonium quartets and my own brass band. These experiences have shaped my musicianship and strengthened my passion for creating music that connects with people.

I am grateful for the teachers and family who have supported me along the way, and I’m excited to continue developing as both a performer and future educator.
Philosophy
I believe music is a universal art form that should be accessible and meaningful to all. As a music educator, my goal is to create experiences where both making and listening to music are deeply enjoyable and enriching, regardless of students’ backgrounds or experience levels.

Music is inherently subjective, shaped by personal preference and emotion. While perfection is unattainable, the true value of music lies in its capacity to express feelings and ideas beyond words. It allows performers to communicate authentically and offers listeners a unique way to connect with their own emotions.
My teaching approach centers on fostering creativity, authenticity, and joy in the learning process. I strive to guide students in expressing themselves through music, ensuring their experiences are engaging and personally relevant. By emphasizing emotional expression and intent, I aim to inspire students to create music that resonates with both performers and audiences.

Reflection
Reflecting on my musical journey has been both rewarding and enlightening. Looking back, I can truly appreciate all that I have accomplished and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I have enjoyed seeing the results of the deliberate, thoughtful process of honing my craft, a process that, as musicians, we are uniquely trained to embrace. Each performance, lesson, and collaborative experience has contributed to my growth not only as a musician but also as an educator and a leader.
Thank you for exploring my portfolio. I hope engaging with my work has been as meaningful and enjoyable for you as it has been for me to create.
